Flesh and Blood: Important Cards for Many Decks
Flesh and Blood at a competitive level can be very expensive with some staple cards being standouts and used in many decks. Alongside some of these expensive staples there are also some very important cards that are affordable and you should pick those up when you can first. In this article I will lay out these important cards that are both affordable and the expensive ones, but I will try to detail some alternatives to those that you could consider also. I will also detail why these cards are so important, powerful and when we can expect to utilize them.
Let’s start off with a suite of cards that are included all in decklists at the highest levels of competition. This is going to be our Nullrune Equipment suite.
Why do we see these in so many lists? Well, this equipment is your best direct defense towards Arcane Damage done by Wizards and Runeblade heroes. You can get each of these for under fifty cents usually, and while it might be best to just pickup the entire suite of equipment, you might not be sideboarding them all in because you have a pivotal piece of equipment that just cant be sideboarded out. Typically you want to run 3 to be at “AB3” so one blue pitch can pay for 3 damage.
Another strong equipment we see used in a couple decks is Mage Master Boots. I personally use these in my Jarl list, because having the ability to be destroying an equipment and going again is a strong turn. For 10 cents, you cant go wrong adding this to your collection, it will find its place.
The next strong card that you see in a majority of decklists is another defensive card. Sink Below (Red) is a Defensive reaction that will block 4 and filter out our hand if we decide to do so. Filtering out cards in our hand is not a common thing that happens in Flesh and Blood and to attach it to a very strong defensive card is amazing. Right now you can get these for Around $2 and are a safe investment for Classic Constructed Competitive play. However Currently this card is banned in Project Blue and while that isnt an official format yet and things can change, there could be a world where Sink Below (Yellow) does find a spot there and that would be cool.
This next card is another Defensive card and while not as powerful as Sink Below (Red) it does see play as either a replacement for it, or a standalone. Fate Foreseen (Red) is going to also Block react for 4 and while it doesnt allow us to Filter out cards from our hand, it does let us Opt 1 and filter that card in specific though.
Now were going to talk about some important cards that pump attacks that you will see a lot of. First off is Razor Reflex (Red), and we’ll see this in Ninjas and Assassins usually, but since it also pumps swords I think theres times when you could possibly see it in a Warrior list too. The main thing to focus on for this card however is the second ability, as its going to help us go wide with Go Again and its focusing on action cards that cost 1 or less. We wont see this at the highest level of competition too often, but at your local Armory and possibly Project BLue in the future, this card seems good.
The second Pump card to talk about that im a big fan of is Pummel (Red). This sees play in a lot of guardian lists and I mean.. I guess you could see it in Warrior too possibly, im not too certain on that. Pumping an Action card for +4 Attack is really big, but giving an on hit to discard a card is massive. You can get these for under 75 cents usually and they will go a long way.
The next card we’ll see used in a lot of decks that go wide is Ravenous Rabble (Red). But moreso than going wide, this can see play in Ranger decks and the use case for this card is in decks that have a Pitch curve that is exteremely low, or even just 1. When using Ravenous Rabble we want to be able to maximize its efficiency by revealing a lower cost card off the top of deck. A 0 Cost, 4 Attack, Go Again is good value and sees play often.
Another strong offensive card we’ll see from time to time in Classic Constructed competitive spaces along with at your local Armory is Battlefront Bastion. This card is going to offer value in a couple places and in a couple colors. a 3 Cost 7 Attack is a strong card and also 5 attack is justifiable too! If you need more Pitch value and can get justify 5 attack, then this is a strong card to consider, or if you want it for your top end, go for the Red copy. Another good thing about this card is that we get value on the defensive side too, it reads block 2, but its a Block 3 when done alone and thats exactly where you want to be at. Above all else… This card art is awesome too, there is an Extended art copy, but thats a little egregious in cost.
Theres definitely many more cards that are strong and cheap for specific classes too and I’ll be writing about those in the future also. For now, these are some strong cards to add to your collection for cheap that are interchangeable in many decks. Enjoy!
